Simple Skincare is a brand I really like because of how affordable, yet effective their products are. I purchased the Simple Micellar Cleansing Water and I have been using it for some time now so, of course, it’s review time! I got it without any expectations as this was my first experience with micellar water – I was already very comfortable with oil cleansing.
Keep reading to see my honest review and how I have incorporated this product into my skincare routine.
What is micellar cleansing water?
In very simple terms, micellar water is micelles (spheres of oil/lipid molecules) suspended in soft water. It attracts dirt and oil and so it is popularly used in skincare for double cleansing and makeup removal. Asides that, it can also be used as a toner. This is due to the anti-inflammatory and hydrating properties most micellar waters have and the fact that they are usually alcohol-free.

Product packaging

As its name implies, it has a very watery texture with only a very subtle difference with actual water.
How I use the Simple Micellar Cleansing Water
I typically use the Simple Micellar Cleansing Water as my first cleanser when I double cleanse at night. Double cleansing means using two cleansers in one routine; first an oil-based cleanser like micellar water and then a regular face wash.
Some people use the micellar water alone but I personally do not roll that way.
As described on the bottle;
Step 1: Apply a generous amount to a cotton pad
Step 2: Wipe the cotton pad around the face avoiding contact with eyes
After this, I cleanse for the second time with my regular face wash.
My Experience
If you follow my blog, you’ll know I have a preference for unscented facial products and the Simple Micellar Cleansing Water passed the test! It is super gentle to use and does not cause any form of irritation on the skin which I love.
It also does a great job in cleansing the skin and getting rid of oil, dirt and makeup. I was actually impressed because it got rid of water proof, stubborn eye make up too with little effort.
I also did a test on a friend’s face showing how well it worked in taking off her makeup.
Pros
- Gentle on skin
- Fragrance free
- Hydrates skin
- Removes oil, dirt and makeup easily
- Portable
- Affordable (I got it for about ₦2000/∼$5)
